Contraindications/Health Restrictions
Contraindications are conditions or factors that make a particular treatment unsafe or not recommended for someone.
Facial Contraindications:
Open wounds or active infections such as cold sores, boils or rashes.
Allergies or sensitivities to skincare ingredients (please share any allergies)
Common cold or other contagious viruses
Fungal infection
Styes
Severe or cystic acne
Sunburn or windburn
Recent chemical peel or laser within 1-2 weeks
Recent waxing on the area within 24-48 hours
Uncontrolled diabetes (consult a doctor first)
Certain medications like Accutane (must be off for at least 6 months)
Stop Retinols/Retin-A 5 days before a facial
The following may restrict a facial:
Active rosacea acne, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis
Recent scar tissue
Minor cuts or scrapes
Freshly treated skin should be left to absorb the treatment. Let your skin rest for at least 8 hours. Avoid touching, picking at acne, or wearing makeup. Keep skin hydrated and wear SPF.
Chemical Peels:
These prevent chemical peel bookings:
Allergy
Sunburn
Open wounds or sores including cold sores or rashes
Serious medical conditions (heart or uncontrolled diabetes)
Medications (type 2 diabetes, Lupus, chemo)
These require a wait before a chemical peel:
Accutane (1 year off)
Retin-A/Retinols (7-10 days off)
Facial waxing (24 hours)
These require caution:
Pregnant or lactating
Rosacea
Salicylic acid peel (Asprin allergy)
POST PEEL CARE:
Avoid direct sun
Wear SPF 30+ and reapply every 2 hours and wear a hat if you are unable to avoid the sun
Avoid high heat for 48 hours (exercise, saunas, hot tubs)
Avoid AHAs and exfoliants for 72 hours
Use hydrating serums and moisturizers
Increase water intake
Waxing Contraindications:
Sunburned, irritated or broken skin
Active acne or lesions, rashes in the area
A recent chemical peel or microdermabrasion within 7-10 days
Use of Accutane within 6 months
Recent use of Retin-A, Differin or other topical medications within 3-5 days (please disclose to your esthetician)
Varicose veins
Skin infections (bacterial, viral, or fungal)
Recent waxing or exfoliation in the same area within 24-48 hours
Diabetes if skin is healing slow (please check with doctor)
Blood thinners or medication that may cause increased bruising or sensitivity
